I was chuffed when a high school friend of mine asked me to
make her wedding cake. Not long before this occurred I happened to catch Roxanne’s
Cakes on TV and thought to myself ‘the assistant has a striking resemblance to
a girl I know from high school’…TBC.
After a few months of emailing back and forth we had taken
her original cake design, tweaked it here and there, chosen flavours and
colours and ended up with a gorgeous design so well suited to the bride and
groom.
The wedding was being held at Upper Reach Winery in the Swan
Valley, another friend and I made the trek with the cake firmly placed in the
boot of my car…needless to say the drive was slightly nerve wrecking as the
weather had been unpredictable that day and we were being treated to torrential
downpours without a seconds notice. I very cautiously carried the 3 tier cake
along the gravel driveway, flicking my shoes out from underneath my dress as I went
as to not trip over it, and set the cake upon the wine barrel inside the venue.
We were lucky enough to have been invited to the ceremony
and it was great to catch up with a few more school friends while waiting with
anticipation for the bride to make her entrance. The setting was just gorgeous,
a huge tree overlooking the vineyard and the sun peeking through the clouds…a
photographers delight! As I was scanning the crowd, to my surprise I saw the
assistant from the cake show I had seen months before…turns out she is a cousin
of the bride! The wedding was lovely, I’ve never seen a groom shed so many
tears…you could really see the love between these love birds!
I was so happy with how the cake turned out, even if I
decorated it with only half an hour before it had to be in the car hehe. The
bottom tier was 3 layers of white chocolate mud cake with white chocolate
ganache, the middle tier 3 layers of red velvet cake with cream cheese filling
and the top tier fruit cake for the bride and groom to keep for their 1st
wedding anniversary.
To Aleisha and Dan, I hope your wedding was everything you had hoped it to be and more. Thank you for letting me play such a special part in your big day.
